Meet the team

The Bar Council Communications team act as press officers and provide advice on the Bar Council's internal and external communications and public affairs activities.

Head of Communications

Steve joined the Bar Council as Head of Communications in September 2014. Previously, he worked as Public Relations Manager for global accountancy body, ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) where he worked across a number of markets on a range of PR campaigns, social as well as traditional media activity.

Prior to ACCA, Steve worked as a press officer at the Law Society of England & Wales where he was involved in a broad spectrum of communications strategies, including member-facing and consumer-focused campaigns. Steve began his career as a journalist with the Trinity Mirror Group before making the move into PR by joining Mattison Public Relations. 

Steve has an LLB (Law) undergraduate degree and an MSc in Politics & Government. He is also a member of Chartered Institute of Public Relations.

Communications (Internal) Manager

Sarah joined the Bar Council in May 2012 as Communications Manager. Previously, she was a Marketing Manager at the world’s largest property adviser, CBRE, where she delivered marketing and communications campaigns for its London and Real Estate Finance teams. 

Prior to that, Sarah was an Assistant Marketing Manager at Sovereign Wealth Fund, St Martins, where she was responsible for the marketing of the Fund’s portfolio of commercial and residential property, as well as the company’s corporate marketing strategy.

Sarah has also worked at global accountancy firm, PwC, where she undertook a secondment to its  Global Brand team in New York, and Barclays Bank. 

Sarah has an MA in Journalism Studies, and a BA (Hons) in French and Italian. 

Public Affairs and Communications Advisor

Luke joined the Bar Council as Public Affairs and Communications Advisor in July 2014. Previously he worked as a teacher in a North London secondary school where he was head of Citizenship and taught A-level Politics, as well as History and English.

Prior to this Luke worked for The Communication Group where he managed public affairs campaigns, developed media strategies, and produced communications collateral for a range of clients in the property and gaming sectors. He also worked for ePolitix.com managing parliamentary intelligence for high profile financial services clients.

Luke has a BA in Politics, a PGCE in History and accreditation from the National Council for the Training of Journalists. He is currently an associate public affairs trainer with the International School of Communications.
