What is it the Bar Council does? Here's a glimpse of just some of the work we have done in March 2016. 

1. Chairman of the Bar wrote in  City AM on the importance of legal services to the success of the City

2. Chairman of the Young Bar attended "Inspirational Women" Event for school children in Stevenage ahead of International Women's Day

3. A  press statement, together with the Bar Human Rights Committee, was issued by the Bar Council raising awareness of the recent attacks against lawyers in Turkey in breach of the UN Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers.

4. Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Young Barristers Committee had meetings with the Lord Chief Justice, Senior Presiding Judge and the Chair of the Bar Standards Board to promote the interests of the young Bar.

5. Chairman of the Bar and Executive team visited the Bar in Nottingham, Birmingham, Winchester, Bristol

6. Bar Council amendments to Investigatory Powers Bill (seeking to strengthen protection for legal professional privilege were submitted to the Bill's Standing Committee

7. The Bar Council promoted Direct Access by attending the Federation of Small Businesses Conference and placed articles in the local media, (Manchester Evening News, Yorkshire Post, Bristol Post and more)

8. The Bar Council responded to  Lord Justice Briggs' interim report

9. Hosted a mature students seminar as well as a family career breaks seminar

10. Published  support materials for chambers on tackling sexual harassment
