Party Conference Briefing Note 2015 (PDF, 14 MB)

The Bar Council's publication, Justice: A precious asset highlights the dangers facing our much admired, but fragile system of justice and explains how the damage it has sustained may be repaired and why it is vital that access to justice is widened.

Produced for Parliamentarians across the political spectrum, Justice: A precious asset, is distributed to Ministers, MPs, Peers, researchers, special advisors and delegates at a time when all parties take stock of the up-coming Parliamentary session.

The publication explains some of the important work the Bar Council undertakes, including:

  • Improving the equality and diversity of the profession
  • Supporting the provision of pro bono legal advice and representation
  • Encouraging innovation in the delivery of legal services
  • Exploring opportunities in overseas markets
  • Campaigning to promote access to justice and the rule of law
  • Assisting Government and parliamentarians in developing public policy
  • Promoting public legal education, and
  • Delivering training to drive and maintain the Bar's excellence in advocacy

Alistair MacDonald QC is addressing fringe events at both party conferences where he is sharing panels with the shadow justice team and Government ministers. He is also holding meetings with ministers and opposition leaders to promote the work of the Bar in the public interest and to explain that justice is indeed a precious asset.
