INSTRUCTIONS FOR ENTRY

The Bar Council's 2016 Legal Reporting Awards competition is now open. Journalists are invited to submit written articles and broadcast pieces on public interest law and justice issues.

Winners will take home £1,000 in prize money.

Now in its 25th year, the awards are given in recognition of the media's role in holding authority to account and improving public understand of the law and justice.

The deadline for applications is Thursday 10 September.

Winners will be presented with their prizes at the Annual Bar Conference on Saturday 15 October 2016.

Last year's winner of the print and online category award was Jon Robins for his articles published in The Independent highlighting the lack of support for victims of miscarriages of justice.

Sanchia Berg won the broadcast category for her Radio Four Today programme piece on failures of the Court of Protection to provide efficient adjudication and appropriate representation to those facing imprisonment.
