The Bar Council welcomes the BSB's consultation on the proposed introduction of a compulsory recruitment timetable and written pupillage agreements.

The four key questions are:

1. Should there be a compulsory timetable?

2. Should it be tied to the current Gateway timetable (and include 14 days to respond to an offer)?

3. If this did go ahead, would Authorised Education and Training Organisations (AETOs) be able to comply by November 2019?

And 4. Should there be a written agreement between AETOs and pupils on how the pupillage will run?

The Bar Council anticipate mixed views on these questions and we are keen to hear the opinions of those involved in pupillage recruitment. The Bar Council will be responding to the BSB.
