Unlocking Disputes

Our first bespoke International Dispute Resolution training for Senior Chinese lawyers will be running from 3 - 7 June 2019.

The one-week training will consist practical placements and training on the following:

  • English Common Law in theory and practice

  • International arbitration: recent developments and international best practice

  • Contracts, choosing governing law, type of dispute settlements, seat of settlement

  • Corporate governance, discovery and evidence retention

  • Discovery and disclosure

  • Third Party funding

This one-week full-time educational and social programme is aimed at senior practising Chinese lawyers.

It is a unique opportunity for Chinese lawyers to deepen their understanding of legal processes and the work of barristers in England and Wales. It will enhance participants' legal skills and knowledge and enable you to develop valuable international contacts.

It will involve a full working week of talks, meeting and social events and participants will
be expected to attend all events in the week.

Eligibility

  • Be Chinese nationals

  • Be graduates who have passed the national lawyers' examination in China and

  • have practiced Chinese law for more than 10 years

  • Be able to demonstrate excellent written and oral English

  • Be currently working as an international dispute resolution lawyer in  a Chinese law firm

  • Be able to commit to one full-time week in London

  • Please note that lawyers who are qualified to practise English law are not eligible for this programme

Programme Costs

The one-week programme, including the educational and social components will be offered free of charge to participating lawyers. Participants are responsible for all other costs incurred as a result of the programme, including flights, accommodation, living costs and health insurance. Assistance with obtaining visa will be provided.
