View the timetable for our life at the Bar webinars. Hear about life as a barrister working in different practice areas, making the most of the application process on the Pupillage Gateway, and learn about different scholarships and schemes available to support you in the start of your career as a barrister.
Monday 14 October
Hear from representatives from the Inns of Court who will outline the funding opportunities and support you may be able to access. This session is run in partnership with the Inns of Court – Lincoln’s Inn, Inner Temple, Middle Temple and Gray’s Inn.
Hear from barristers from leading family law sets who will give you an insight into their working lives. Understand the skills required to succeed as a family barrister and developments in the area of family law. This session is run with support from the Family Law Bar Association
Tuesday 15 October
Hear from employed barristers from a range of practice areas give you an insight into their working lives at the employed Bar, and the pupillage options available. You will hear from barristers working in the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), the regulatory sector, and business and industry.
Hear from junior and senior barristers, from leading criminal sets about their working lives, the skills required to succeed at the criminal Bar, and developments in the area. If you are interested in practising criminal law, this is the session for you. This session is run with the support of the Criminal Bar Association.
Wednesday 16 October
Maximise your chances of submitting a successful pupillage application and start preparing for this year’s recruitment process. The Bar Council’s services team will talk you through the Pupillage Gateway, to help you understand how to use the portal when searching and applying for pupillage. Practising barristers will discuss how you can use each section of the application form to improve the likelihood of being offered first round interview.
Hear from junior and senior barristers, from leading chancery and commercial sets, about their working lives, the skills required to succeed in their areas, and developments in those areas. If you're interested in practising Chancery or commercial law, this is the session for you. This session is run with the support of the Chancery Bar Association.
Thursday 17 October
Hear from barristers with lived experience of disability as they share their thoughts and advice on the pupillage recruitment process and life at the Bar, including the challenges that they face(d), existing forms of support and areas for improvement.
Hear from civil law barristers, including those practising in public law, technology and construction law, personal injury, and employment law, about their working lives and developments in their area(s). If you're interested in practising in civil law, this is the session for you. This session is run with support from the Personal Injury Bar Association, and the Technology and Construction Bar Association.
