In the Running on Empty - Civil Legal Aid Research Report January 2021, the Bar Council looks at civil legal aid practice - one of the three areas of publicly funded legal representation (the others being criminal and family).
Anecdotally, certain issues concerning working conditions, access to justice and sustainability were being raised by practitioners. The Bar Council felt it necessary to document the policy challenges and working circumstances of this type of publicly funded work in order to inform our future policy positions and act as evidential support in our conversations with the Ministry of Justice and the Treasury.
